After graduating with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Massey University in 2018, Shaan honed her skills through equine internships and private practice in New Zealand. Her passion for equine dentistry led her to pursue numerous courses and conferences across New Zealand and Australia, culminating in earning her Membership in Equine Dentistry with the Australia and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) in 2022—a testament to her dedication to advancing equine oral health.
Shaan recently completed a two-year Graduate Diploma in Animal Biomechanical Medicine (ABM) through the Animal Biomechanical Professionals Australia (ABMPA). This advanced training integrates chiropractic and osteopathic techniques to provide a unique, whole-horse approach to diagnosis and treatment.
An accredited endurance veterinarian with the Australian Endurance Riders Association (AERA), Shaan also holds FEI Permitted Treating Vet (PTV) and Level 1 Official Vet permits. Her love for endurance and distance riding events began during her vet school years, inspiring her to support these equine athletes.
Growing up in rural South Africa, Shaan’s love for animals was nurtured by a menagerie of pets, from dogs and cats to chickens and horses. Over the years, she’s embraced a wide range of equestrian activities, including show jumping, show hunter, dressage, mounted archery, and even working as a horse wrangler on a TV show.
Shaan’s professional journey also includes time in the horse racing industry as an assistant racehorse trainer in South Africa, where she learned the art of maintaining elite equine athletes through optimal nutrition, fitness, and care. Inspired by equine veterinarians she encountered during this time, Shaan decided to pursue her dream of becoming an equine vet herself.
Today, Shaan travels across South East Queensland, providing mobile services that prioritize her patients’ well-being. As a member of ANZCVS, ABMPA, and CIVT, she remains committed to lifelong learning and offering integrative veterinary care. Whether through equine dentistry, rehabilitation, or biomechanical treatments, Shaan’s goal is to help every horse she treats live a happier, healthier life.
When not working, Shaan enjoys volunteering with animal rescue organizations, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with her own animals.
I believe that success is never a solo journey. The guidance, support, and expertise of family and many friends, coaches, tutors and mentors have shaped my approach to integrative veterinary care. I am grateful for the dedication of those who support me now, and have shared their knowledge and passion along the way, helping me bring the best care to every horse I treat.
Vet Align EQUINE is committed to providing biomechanical medicine and equine performance dentistry for horses across South East Queensland.
